Florida Woman Faces Charges for Endangering Baby with Pitbull Mix

Florida Woman Faces Charges for Endangering Baby with Pitbull Mix: In Florida, the mother of a child whose fingers were gnawed off by a pit bull mix puppy has been released on bond after being charged with child neglect. According to court documents, 21-year-old Chloe Wisniewski was apprehended last week following a four-month investigation.

According to the arrest complaint, deputies from Charlotte County, Florida, went to a Port Charlotte residence on February 14 to investigate a dog bite report. Port Charlotte is about an hour’s drive south of Tampa. Wisniewski informed them that she had placed her neonate in a cot in order to take a “quick shower.”

Three-month-old pit bull mix Apollo was ‘chewing’ on her hand when she heard her young daughter screaming from the toilet. The mother stated that she removed the dog from the child, bandaged his wounds, and called 911.

She informed the deputies that there was “so much blood” on the baby’s fingers that she could not stand to look at them. The infant was stabilised by emergency personnel before being transported to Tampa General Hospital for surgery.

According to the criminal complaint, physicians were required to amputate three fingers from the child’s left hand and partially amputate two fingers from her right. Apollo was gathered up by Charlotte County Animal Control, and Wisniewski was evaluated by the Department of Children and Families.

The psychoactive component of marijuana, THC, was detected in the mother’s urine, according to the authorities. According to a local NBC affiliate, Brian Jones, division manager of Charlotte County Animal Control, stated, “It was a strange and unfortunate incident.”

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit conducted the investigation for four months. Wisniewski “did, by culpable negligence, fail to provide the infant with the care, supervision, and services necessary to maintain physical health,” resulting in the infant’s “permanent disfigurement,” as supported by evidence.

Reports indicate that Animal Control quarantined Apollo before transferring him to the Animal Welfare League. After posting a $7,500 bond on Monday, Wisniewski was permitted supervised visitation with the infant while he recovers from family obligations.

Following the assault, Wisniewski’s neighbours recalled a sudden influx of emergency personnel into their normally tranquil neighbourhood. “There was a lot of noise out here,” Kecia Godfrey remarked. The area was cordoned off with yellow tape as police and forensics vehicles arrived. Godfrey referred to the events as a “tragedy,” adding that she had never encountered anything comparable in the past 25 years.
