Florida’s Fiery Heart: The core of Florida is sweltering due to an unanticipated temperature spike, sending the thermometer to new heights. The thermometer is nearing 100 degrees as a result of the ‘heat dome’ phenomenon.
Cities such as Orlando and Sanford are experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 99 degrees Fahrenheit. Surprisingly, the typically cooling sea breeze along the east coast has taken a back position, with coastal temperatures hovering around average.
And if forecasts hold true, this scorching heat will persist until midweek. The heat is amplified by the humidity, making the environment feel even more oppressive.
What is the cause of this raging rage? The culprit is a high-pressure system, the so-called ‘heat dome’, which is centred primarily over the western regions of Florida. Even though there’s a 40% to 50% chance of precipitation, it’s unlikely to be the saviour we’re expecting for, providing little relief from the oppressive heat.
Thankfully, there is a silver lining: the heatwave is expected to subside by the end of the week. For the time being, Floridians are advised to prioritise hydration and seek shade or air-conditioned spaces. It is essential to maintain a calm temperature and avoid heat-related health issues.
