She attended Madison Area Technical College and the University of Wisconsin before attending Columbia College Chicago to earn a BA in broadcast journalism.

An internship with Bill Kurtis at WBBM-TV was Padilla’s first job in the field; this modest beginning helped pave the path for a prosperous journalism career. She worked for several different companies and got a lot of experience over the years, accepting many offers.
