George Van Tassel Death: George A. Van Tassel passed away at the Penobscot Bay Medical Centre in Rockport on April 5, 2003, at the age of 84. In Brighton, England, on September 9, 1918, he was born to Alexander and Kathleen Donavon Van Tassel. George spent his formative years in Centreville, New Brunswick, where he attended public school and graduated from Centreville High.

Protection of the Country

George enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 19 out of a sense of duty. During World War II, his valiant service on the battleships HMS Restigouche, HMS Camrose, and HMS Sioux earned him the title of “Lead Signalman.” He was completely devoted to his nation.

George Van Tassel’s friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, on April 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at 11:00 a.m., the Reverend Ralph Moore will preside over a Eucharistic Celebration in his honour at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on White Street in Rockland.

The final resting site has been selected as the Seaview Cemetery in Rockport. George A. Van Tassel’s existence was defined by his devotion to his country, his community, and his family. His dedication, selflessness, and loyalty will be remembered for generations.

Enforcement of the law and Professional Aims

After receiving an honourable discharge from the military in 1945, George Van Tassel returned to St. John, New Brunswick, where he joined the police force and rose to the rank of Sergeant Detective. The family eventually settled in Boston, Massachusetts, where he worked for a period of years as a hotel manager.

Living in Concord

George married Barbara Barrett in Camden, New Jersey, on his birthday, September 9, 1967. Together, they began an exciting new chapter in his life.

George Van Tassel was a dedicated family man and a diligent businessman. He founded the business he managed until his retirement, Camden Home Modernization.

His decades-long involvement with the Rockland Kiwanis Club and his leadership roles with the Knox County Republicans demonstrated his profound sense of civic duty. In his leisure time, he volunteered for organisations such as Meals on Wheels and the Rockland Public Library.

Credence and Dedication

George Van Tassel held faith in high regard. He formerly attended St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Camden and served on its Vestry. Longtime member of St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockland, where he served on the Vestry and Building Committee.

Since nearly twenty years ago, George has spent his winters in Inverness, Florida. There, he felt at home after joining St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church and volunteering extensively at the Citrus County Public Library. In recognition of his commitment to the community, the Inverness Kiwanis Club made him an Honorary Member.

Children and History

Barbara, his devoted wife from Rockland, and Carl Griffith and Patricia, his stepson and stepdaughter-in-law from Venice, Florida, are the only people he leaves behind.

Betty Guiford and Patricia Morgan, both of Rockland, and Nancy Standel and Philip Standel, both of Ellsworth, are his step-daughters.

His sister and brother-in-law from Rockland, Vera and John Hill, were very special to him. His fourteen great-grandchildren and seven grandchildren are tangible proof of his enduring influence.
