Graham Mcgrath Obituary

The body of the Florida Gulf Coast University student who perished after falling off a boat Wednesday night has been located, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).

The body of the 19-year-old male who went overboard while on a private boat in Lake Como near the university was discovered after a 12-hour search. Graham McGrath was one of thirteen passengers aboard the ship at the time of the collision.

According to LCSO, numerous personnel arrived at the scene at approximately 7:00 p.m. On the boat, deputies utilised a side-scan sonar to locate and photograph objects on the lakebed.

Images reveal that the lake is significantly deeper than expected, reaching depths of 30 to 50 feet. According to the sheriff, this is presently a death investigation. The exact cause of demise is currently unknown.

Sheriff Marceno and other officials corroborate the discovery of a body in the lake between Florida Gulf Coast University and Miromar Lakes, Florida. The victim has been identified as FGCU student Graham McGrath. Undetermined is the documented cause of death.

As they continue their “death investigation,” the office does not suspect foul play, but has not ruled out the possibility either. Marceno stated on Wednesday evening that there were “14 occupants on a boat with a capacity of 16” and that because the lake’s water was “dark,” all hands were required for the search. It is overcast outside. It is night. It is difficult terrain.”

Authorities assert that they have spoken with the remaining passengers on the boat when McGrath plunged overboard; none are college students. Thursday, Marceno promised that “we will determine precisely what happened.”

Thursday afternoon, FGCU president Aysegul Timur addressed the calamity on the institution’s X (previously Twitter) page. She wrote, “It is with profound sadness that I inform you of the passing of Graham McGrath, the FGCU student who tragically disappeared yesterday afternoon while on a private boat on the lake shared by the university and Miramar Lakes.”

Timur communicated his ‘deepest condolences’ to McGrath’s colleagues, family, and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. The sheriff wrote on his Twitter account, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Graham’s family and the entire FGCU family.”
