Hernando Deputies Discover Man Fatally Injured: According to deputies, the corpse of a father reported missing after a canoe accident on Chassahowitzka Bay in Hernando County has been located.
The man’s 17-year-old son was rescued by boaters and transported to a local hospital, where his condition is presently stable, according to a press release from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
According to reports, detectives from the sheriff’s office’s Major Case Unit have arrived and are conducting an investigation. At approximately 4:00 p.m., a canoe was observed circling the water, but no one was aboard.
According to sheriff’s officials, boaters quickly located the teen clinging to a floating sign. The youth then informed his fellow boaters that he and his father had capsized. However, the boaters were unable to locate his father.
According to the press release, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office provided watercraft and helicopters, respectively, to assist the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office in their search for the father.
Sonar and a dive team were sent to the area by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Police have not publicly identified the father or his adolescent son, and it is unknown where the father was discovered deceased. Deputies report that they are still collecting information about the incident.
