Hersha Parady Obituary: Hersha Parady, who portrayed Alice Garvey on the popular NBC series “Little House on the Prairie,” died at the age of 78 on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Parady passed away at the residence of her son, Jonathan Peverall, in Norfolk, Virginia, after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in July.

Peverall asserted that he and his family were able to relocate his ailing mother to their Virginia home and provide her with the best treatment possible. Peverall expressed-

From transferring costs to in-home nursing care to medical equipment, the financial burden is considerable. With a full-time job and three children, it is difficult to provide the level of attention she requires.

The Post contacted Parady’s son for additional information. In the late 1970s, Parady rose to prominence as Garvey in Season 4 of “Little House on the Prairie” alongside former NFL player Merlin Olsen, who portrayed her onscreen spouse, Jonathan Garvey.

The actress was on the show for 35 episodes before her character was killed off in the sixth season during an attempt to save the infant son of Mary and Adam (Melissa Sue Anderson and Linwood Boomer) in a schoolhouse fire.

Following the airing of the wildly popular episode, some “Prairie” viewers were convinced that Parady had destroyed a locked window with a doll.

In an interview for the Little House on the Prairie Memories fan site, Parady stated:

They did not make the windows easy to break, and I’m not a meek, delicate woman, as Michael Landon often pointed out, so when I attempt to break something, I generally succeed.

Michael himself was the first to comment that I appeared to be attempting to use Mary’s infant as a battering ram to break the window!

Since they had neglected to “break away” the windows, I was determined to escape at all costs!Regardless of the impending catastrophe, at least I went out with a bang and not a whimper!

In 1975, Parady told the Cleveland Plain Dealer, “I was always a child living in a world of make-believe.” Even as a young child, I preferred to engage in imaginative play over playing with figurines.

Her television credits include “Mannix,” “Unsolved Mysteries,” and “Second Noah,” among others, and her film credits include 1995’s “The Break,” in which she starred alongside Martin Sheen, Vincent Van Patten, Valerie Perrine, and Rae Dawn Chong, and 1984’s “Courage.”
