The parties executed an agreement that resolved all issues pertaining to their marriage and child custody.
How Much Britney Spears Reportedly Paid In Divorce Settlement And Alimony: Britney Spears and Kevin Federline are still at odds, despite their divorce occurring over ten years ago. Federline recently infuriated Spears’ fans by releasing video footage of Spears bickering with their sons. The couple was married from 2004 to 2007, but they separated in 2007.
It culminated with Spears attacking Federline on Instagram, celebrities professing support for the pop diva, and Spears’ attorneys releasing a statement.
Recent statements by Federline indicate that their sons, Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, do not wish to see their mother. Despite not seeing Federline or her sons, Spears reportedly continues to pay them alimony.
Federline was awarded a divorce settlement in 2007, although the parameters of the alimony payment were renegotiated in 2018. However, how much has Spears paid Federline and how much does she continue to pay?
Three months into their relationship, Spears and Federline became engaged. They were married on September 18, 2004. After less than three years, they finalised their divorce agreement on March 29, 2007.
Michael Sands, a spokesman for Federline’s attorney, issued the following statement:
The parties executed an agreement that resolved all issues pertaining to their marriage and child custody.
Federline would receive $1,3 million as part of the settlement, but a source for Reuters has stated that this figure is inaccurate. Federline would have been entitled to more money if he had executed a “ironclad prenup,” as suggested by Spears’ attorneys.
At the time of their divorce, both of their children were less than two years old, and the couple agreed to share custody. By October 2007, Spears had lost physical custody to Federline, although the court-ordered reasons were not made public.
She was placed under conservatorship in 2008, around the time she was twice admitted to the hospital for psychiatric evaluations.
According to TMZ, when Spears and Federline separated and Federline gained custody of their children, Spears was paying Federline $20,000 per month in child support, in addition to tuition, school expenses, and extracurricular financing.
In 2018, Federline’s solicitors reportedly demanded an increase in child support payments. Federline demanded a monthly payment of $60,000 from Spears and her conservator at the time, Jamie Spears. In September of that year, Spears consented to pay additional child support, but the amount was not made public.
Top U.K. attorney Lucy Williams explains how much a parent is required to pay a former partner in child support, stating that Spears’ children’s needs, not Federline’s, would determine the total amount.
The court determines what payments a party should make based on the requirements of the children during the time they are with that parent, and not on the desires of either party.
Williams, who is also the Head of the Manchester Children Team at the U.K. and international law firm Varags, went on to say, “In the United Kingdom, any attempt to increase child support based on obligations to children of separate parents would fail. Britney’s obligations are to her two children, and if the court determines that their needs are met and they can experience a comparable lifestyle with both parents, then she has no further obligations.
Williamson stated that Federline’s request for additional child support is not uncommon.
“We see a number of cases where a party tries to maximise their own financial position through such a claim,” she explained. “Similarly, we may encounter a parent who is the higher earner and who attempts to minimise or avoid their responsibilities to their children. You must be prepared and outfitted to handle both in order to achieve the best outcome for the children, who are at the centre of these disputes.”
Federline allegedly received over $1 million from Spears in 2007 and has since received tens of thousands of dollars per month in child support from Spears, if prior allegations from multiple news outlets are accurate. The current estimation of Kevin Federline’s net worth is $1.5 million.
