Jack Axelrod Cause of Death: ‘General Hospital’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor passes away at 93

He passed away on November 28 in Los Angeles as a result of natural causes, according to Jennifer Garland, Axelrod’s representative.

Jack Axelrod Cause of Death: Axelrod is best known for his role as mob leader Victor Jerome on “General Hospital,” as well as his guest appearances on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “My Name Is Earl,” and many other television shows. He was 93 years old at the time of his passing.

He passed away on November 28 in Los Angeles as a result of natural causes, according to Jennifer Garland, Axelrod’s representative. In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Garland stated, “I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with him during his last years, since he did not have an immediate family.”

“We spent much time outdoors, where Jack loved to sketch, read news articles, and recite Shakespearean sonnets.” In his military career, Axelrod, who was born on January 25, 1930, held the rank of corporal. He served in Germany between 1953 and 1955, as Variety reported.

Axelrod attended UC Berkeley with a major in design, while simultaneously pursuing a career in acting. As a student at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York City, he studied under Tony Award winner Uta Hagen for six years

Actors Robert DeNiro, Gene Wilder, Faye Dunaway, and Matthew Broderick were among Hagen’s famous students (who passed away in 2004). Woody Allen directed Axelrod’s big screen debut in the 1971 comedy “Bananas,” based on his IMDb page.

He appeared in forty episodes of the ABC drama “General Hospital” from 1987 to 1989. He was on “My Name is Earl” as Electrolarynx Guy and other characters, and he was on “Grey’s Anatomy” as a semi-comatose patient who had a strange end.

“Dallas,” “Dynasty,” “Night Court,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” are among his other prominent credits.

“Macbeth” (Shakespeare) was staged off-Broadway in 1969 starring Axelrod, who also had a role in the Broadway production of “Gandhi” (which closed on opening night) and a long career in film and television.

He has taught theatrical studies at a number of universities, including Penn State, UW-Whitewater, BU, and Michigan. “Bad Therapy,” starring Michaela Watkins, Rob Corddry, and Alicia Silverstone, was released in 2020. Axelrod played a physician in the film.
