Jamshedpur: Surge in Covid cases lead people to throng for booster dose

During the last 24 hours, 37 positive cases of Covid-19 have been reported, something which was seen for the first time after February 16, 2022.

Jamshedpur: As the number of Covid-19 cases is increasing in the steel city, people are thronging for the booster dose at the vaccination centres. During the last 24 hours, 37 positive cases of Covid-19 have been reported, something which was seen for the first time after February 16, 2022.

Out of these 37 cases, five are children, the youngest among them is just six months old.

“We had taken samples of of 1,070 at various hospitals and administration-run facilities on Tuesday. Of these samples, 37 were tested positive, including five children. Earlier till July 18, the number of Covid positive had remained confined to 30,” said East Singhbhum district civil surgeon, Jujhar Majhi.

The civil surgeon pointed out though most of the those tested Covid positive do have cough, cold and sneezing with a mild fever as symptoms, a patient may turn fatal if one is elderly with co-morbidity.

Majhi informed that an 85-year-old man who had co-morbidity died of Covid at the Tata Motors Hospital four days ago.  Significantly, keeping the rising trend of the Covid in the steel city, the district administration has on Monday declared the Covid protocol must be followed strictly in the steel city.

“People must follow the Covid protocol like wearing mask, maintaining social distance and handwashing in public places. The move to follow the Covid protocol may get stricter if the number of positive cases continues to rise further, ” said the district disease surveillance officer, Sahir Pal.

He pointed out that the people were not responsive so much about taking the booster dose earlier, but as the cases began to increase again more and more people are turning out at the vaccination centres for the booster dose.

Pal informed that over 15,000 people have been inoculated with the booster dose during the past five days.
