Janice Griffin Obituary: On January 30, 2023, 73-year-old Janice “Jan” Marlene Gryphon of Smelterville, Idaho, passed away at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene. She was born to Clarence and Virginia Asche on February 8, 1949, in Newberg, Oregon.

Jan attended Anchorage High School and grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. On August 9, 1974, in Coeur d’Alene, ID, she wed Fredrick Gryphon; the couple went on to have three daughters: Heather, Holly, and Hilary. On June 19 of that year (2022), Fredrick went dead.

Jan’s family was everything to her, but she loved her grandchildren the most. She spent her free time reading, doing word searches, sewing, and watching television.

Heather (Mark) Freber of Smelterville, ID, Holly (Marc) Olson of Post Falls, ID, and Hilary (Travis) Guertin of Post Falls, ID are her children who will carry on after her passing.

Lakoda Gryphon, Victoria Olson, Prestin Gibbs, Madison Gibbs, and Samuel Olson are her grandchildren, while Bentley Gryphon is her great-grandson. She is survived by her sister Barb (Jim) Duling of Sunapee, New Hampshire, her nephews Don and Shawn Duling, and several cousins.

Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the doors of Shoshone Funeral Services, 106 S. Main St., Kellogg, ID 83830, will be open for friends and family to pay their respects.

On Friday, February 10 at 12 PM, funeral services will be place at Shoshone Funeral Services. Jan and Fredrick’s last resting place is at Kingston, Idaho’s Shoshone Memorial Gardens.
