Johnny Hardwick is most known for his role as Hank Hill’s best friend Dale on King of the Hill. He was 64. TMZ reported that police were called to Hardwick’s home in Texas on Tuesday to check on him.

They discovered his dead body there. The cause of death remains unexplained, despite reports that foul play has been ruled out. Hardwick played Dale Gribble, Hank’s neighbour and best friend who works as a bug exterminator and smokes a chain of cigarettes constantly, in all 258 episodes of the cancelled Fox series King of the Hill.

The next Hulu refresh would have him back. A source on the set of Hill told TVLine that Hardwick had not yet wrapped production on the upcoming episodes. Fox’s King of the Hill followed the lives of Hank Hill, a propane salesman in Arlen, Texas, and his friends and family for 13 seasons, from 1997 to 2009.

No release date has been determined for the modern remake, but the fictional Texas town will serve as its backdrop once again. It has been revealed that Pamela Adlon (Hank’s kid Bobby), Stephen Root (Hank’s barber pal Bill), and Mike Judge (Hank) will all be back for the new season, along with Hardwick.

Ashley Gardner plays both Dale’s wife Nancy and Minh’s daughter Connie, while Lauren Tom portrays Dale’s neighbour Minh. In the original Fox sitcom, Toby Huss voiced Minh’s husband Kahn. However, he is not mentioned as a cast member in the reboot.

Brittany Murphy, who voiced Hank and Peggy’s naive niece Luanne in the Fox Run, died in 2009.
