The circumstances surrounding Lacitrus Gholston’s death have elicited astonishment and uncertainty. On the evening of the accident, Lacitrus, 33, was driving northbound on GA106/Mize Road near the Highway 17 Bypass intersection just before 9 p.m.
According to reports, he was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle while navigating a curve. This loss of control resulted in a collision with a Ford F250 operated by 21-year-old Brian Caleb Phillips of Toccoa.
As a result of the collision, the F250 pickup overturned, skidded, and overturned once more before coming to rest in a ditch. Alyssa Phillips, Breelin Reece, and an unidentified 15-year-old passenger were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

His early years were enriched by the affection and support of his family, including his cherished grandmother Shirley Colbert Hunter. Katherine Gholston, his adoptive mother, also passed away tragically before him.
Lacitrus leaves a legacy of cherished memories and widespread affection. Janareon and Kewonta Riley, both of Lavonia, Georgia, and Jacir Trammell, of Toccoa, Georgia, are his surviving sons. His parents, Lyshanda K. Dubose and Wade C. Hunter, continue to cherish him deeply.
Lacitrus had eight brothers: Arsenio Hunter and Cameron Hunter of Toccoa, Georgia; Defarrell Hunter, Ikell Hunter, Damarian Flentall, Montavious Whitfield, Broadus Blackwell, and Jeremiah Hunter, all of Toccoa, Georgia. He also had three sisters, all of whom resided in Toccoa, Georgia: Karri Hunter, M’Naijah Hunter, and Zykeyia Hunter. Grandfather Hick Hunter resides in Westminster, South Carolina.
