Laurie was the founder and CEO of the Union Chill Cannabis Company in Lambertville, New Jersey, a testament to her foresight and entrepreneurship. Her journey in public service began in January 2016 when she was elected to the New Hope Borough Council in November 2015.

Laurie was serving as vice president of the council at the time of her untimely death, a position that reflected the trust and respect she earned from her colleagues and constituents.

Laurie was not only a remarkable individual, but an inspiration to all of us in Bucks. Her enthusiasm for our club was contagious, and she possesses an indomitable will. The contributions Laurie made both on and off the water will be remembered eternally.

We will be eternally grateful to Laurie for the innumerable friendships, memories, and victories she brought into our lives. She was always there to lend a hand, encourage us during difficult times, and celebrate our victories.

Our dragon boat family will carry on Laurie’s legacy through the spirit of camaraderie and determination that she imparted. Her spirit will eternally be engraved in the annals of Bucks Dragon Boat. Our deepest condolences, dear companion. You will be profoundly missed and never forgotten.

Laurie McHugh, in addition to her positions in politics and business, co-founded the Bucks County Dragon Boat Association, a club that impacted countless individuals. Under her direction, the association won multiple national titles, with their most recent triumph occurring in Sarasota in July 2023. Not only did Laurie’s commitment to this club cultivate a sense of community, but it also garnered widespread recognition and support.
