She perished on April 25, 2002, in Honduras from injuries sustained in an automobile accident at the age of 30. When she “lost control,” she was driving a leased Mitsubishi, her spokesman Jay Marose told The New York Times.

Tragically, Lisa Lopes was killed in a vehicle accident in Roma, Jutiapa, Guatemala. The accident was caused by excessive speed and the inability to maintain control of the rented SUV, which resulted in severe brain injuries due to blunt force trauma.

The police stated that Lopes perished at the scene as a result of her vehicle leaving the roadway and flipping multiple times.

At the time, Watkins issued a statement that read, “We have truly lost our sister.” Never will our unity be shattered.
