Mandy Moore is standing tall alongside the other performers. The star of This Is Us explained one of the primary reasons she is joining the SAG-AFTRA picket lines.

On July 18, while walking alongside Scandal alumna Katie Lowes, she told The Hollywood Reporter that “the residual issue is a huge issue.” “As working actors, we’re in a privileged position, having been a part of series that, in one way or another, achieved phenomenal acclaim…In the past, however, many actors in our situation were able to survive off of residuals or at least cover their expenses.

Moore has received “very tiny, like 81-cent checks” for This Is Us’ streaming residuals, according to her own account. “I was speaking with my business manager,” she continued, “who informed me that he has received a one-cent-and-a-half-cent residual.”

Rebecca Pearson starred in the NBC series This Is Us, which ran from 2016 to 2022. Nonetheless, a partnership was formed in 2017 to allow the Emmy-winning series to be viewed on Hulu in addition to network television. Hulu has not responded to a request for comment from E! News.

SAG-AFTRA members have been on strike since July 14 at midnight, as the union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) were unable to reach a new contract agreement.

Moore subsequently took to Instagram to elaborate on her response to the query of why she is striking, having previously revealed in a SAG-AFTRA video that she has been a member since 1999.

In a July 19 post, she stated, “I’d like to shed a little more light on a very delicate issue. Striking isn’t pleasurable. Nobody wanted it to reach this stage, and I know that all parties involved are hoping for a swift resolution so that people can return to work.

Already catastrophic is the trickle-down effect that so many industries are experiencing. The A Walk to Remember alumnus elucidated a number of the most significant issues that performers confront when signing a new contract. She continued, “There are several issues that are clogging the pipeline, and I spoke about one that was on my mind because of a conversation I had while picketing (transparency with data, wage increases, residuals, artificial intelligence, etc.).”

Moore concluded by expressing her desire for a resolution between the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA. As an actor, she stated, “I recognise my incredibly fortunate and singular position at this time. This is a position I do not take for granted, nor do I presume it will last forever.

“Our industry is unstable, and throughout my more than 20-year tenure as a performer, it has fluctuated. There have been times when I was unable to obtain work, and those were precisely the times when performers in the past relied on residuals from their previous work to support themselves.

Because the world and business have evolved, I hope we can come up with a viable solution moving forward. She stated that she will continue to advocate for SAG-AFTRA and its strike until that time.

I am only one person, a tiny fraction of our guild, and while I am happy to comment on issues affecting my fellow @sagaftra family members from whatever platform my previous employment has afforded me, I am conscious that my experience is limited to my own. Let’s hope we receive a fair contract shortly so we can return to the work we all miss dearly.
