Mason Greenwood Video: Mason Greenwood, age 21, was asked to quit Manchester United following the conclusion of an internal investigation into the allegations made against him. The CPS stated that Greenwood’s conviction was “no longer a realistic prospect” due to the absence of key witnesses and the discovery of new evidence. Greenwood had denied all allegations, and Manchester United had initiated an investigation. After six months of increasing social pressure, the club has decided to separate ways with Greenwood.

When the news emerged last week that Manchester United planned to reinstate Greenwood to the first team, the club was met with harsh criticism from its supporters. Richard Arnold, the chief executive officer of Manchester United, sent an open letter to supporters on Monday in which he acknowledged their displeasure but said he could now be candid about the internal investigation.

He stated that the alleged victim had asked police to suspend their investigation of Greenwood in April 2022 and that the club had been presented with “alternative explanations” for the audio recording.

Greenwood tallied 35 goals for Manchester United in 129 games. Even though he had only played for England once, he was hailed as one of the sport’s most promising young players. The future football destination of Greenwood must be clarified.

The campaign organisation Female Fans Against Greenwood’s Return stated on X (previously Twitter) last week that reinstating the 21-year-old forward would normalise “se*ual assault and domestic abuse.”

The response to Monday’s statement from Manchester United was that the club’s leadership had made the right decision for the “wrong reasons.”

The Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) was relieved that a resolution had finally been reached, despite its criticism of the club for failing to engage with fans more frequently during the internal investigation.

According to a statement issued by MUST on Monday, despite the fact that the recent rumours and debate were detrimental and reflected poorly on the Club, it is clear that they made the right decision.
