Melinda Dillon Cause Of Death: Melinda Dillon, who portrayed the mother in A Christmas Story and warned Ralphie he would shoot out his eye, died on January 9 at the age of 83. She was also well-known for her supporting performances in the Oscar-nominated films Absence of Malice (1981) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) by Sydney Pollack and Steven Spielberg, respectively.

In the obituary reporting her death, no explanation was provided. Dillon’s family informed Giant Freakin Robot that she had requested cremation and scattering of her remains in the Pacific Ocean.
