Miami-Dade Middle-Schoolers Lead STEM Exploration: Miami-Dade County middle school pupils have established virtual camps on Mars. This summer, middle students from all over the county, including Andover, West Miami, and Thomas Jefferson, participated in a STEM-focused summer programme for three weeks.

Earlier this month, the Verizon Innovative Learning Programme was conducted in conjunction with the After School All-Stars Programme at Florida International University.

Miami-Dade Middle-Schoolers Lead STEM Exploration in Virtual Mars Summer Program

According to After School All-Stars programme director Richard McKinley, campers will experience a sample of college life while exploring STEM fields of study. The institution furnished the students with a dining hall, classrooms for courses, and study rooms for completing their homework.

Immersive media, intelligent solutions, digital product innovations, and artificial intelligence are the four knowledge pillars upon which students construct their education. These programmes include lectures on 3D modelling, printing, and coding using CoSpaces and Tinkercad.

According to After School All-Stars director Sean Prospect, the children improved throughout the session.”We want them to become producers as opposed to consumers,” he explained.

Fernando Suarez and Chelsea Bello, both pupils at West Miami Middle School, were among those who attended the camp.

Coding was what Bello enjoyed the most. “It was both difficult and enjoyable,” she said. It required a great deal of consideration on your part.

The campers spent the week programming rovers and creating virtual worlds in preparation for the culminating activity of the week: the virtual reality construction of a Mars outpost. At the conclusion of the course, they presented their respective initiatives to one another.

Students displayed 3D-printed currencies, defined the governance of their bases, and demonstrated the capabilities of their preprogrammed rovers. Due to this encounter, many children report feeling more motivated to enter a STEM field.
