Michael’s Academic Pursuits and Musical Accomplishments

Michael’s musical education was rich and variegated. At Northmount Junior High School, he studied the cello while continuing his percussion studies. At Newtonbrook High School, he honed his talents, which led to an audition with the University of Toronto Jazz Ensemble.

Michael was a member of the ensemble for five years under the direction of Phil Nimmons. In 1976 and 1977, he was a member of the Canadian National Youth Orchestra, where he was instructed by the renowned Alexander Lepak. Michael’s dedication to his profession was demonstrated by his Bachelor of Performance with Honours from the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto.
