The Michigan Lottery says that Michael Sopejstal likes to go to Michigan often to eat at one of his favorite places. When he stopped at a gas station on his way to New Buffalo as usual, he took his usual chance at the drawing.

The Illinois man in his 60s said that whenever he’s in town, he plays 10 to 20 draws of the Michigan Lucky For Life Lottery.

“I asked the retailer for a ticket for 10 draws, but he accidentally printed a ticket with 10 lines for each draw,” Sopejstal told the Michigan Lottery. “But I told him I still wanted it.”

Sopestal was helped by the clerk’s honest mistake. In the Lucky For Life draw on September 17, he won $25,000 a year.

Lottery officials say that the Lucky For Life game has a top prize of $1,000 a day for life for people who match all five winning numbers plus the Lucky Ball numbers.

”I checked my ticket one morning and saw that I had won $25,000 a year for life,” he said. “I immediately started thinking about all the things I could do with the money and whether I wanted to take the lump sum or annuity option. It was an amazing feeling.”
