Moaning Myrtle Death: Uncovering The Story Behind Her Death

Moaning Myrtle, a spectral character from Harry Potter, was unexpectedly terminated before her time at Hogwarts, causing fascination with her spectral form and haunting wails.

Moaning Myrtle Death: A popular character from the Harry Potter books, Moaning Myrtle has a spectral quality and lets terrifying wails haunt the Hogwarts lavatory. Many are interested in learning about her horrific demise despite her spectral form. Myrtle Warren, her real-life persona, unexpectedly terminated before her time at Hogwarts.

Her death has a profound effect on the narrative and is entwined with the secrets of the wizarding realm. J.K. Rowling’s imaginative universe has further levels of intrigue and complexity when we examine the details of how Moaning Myrtle met her end.

Moaning Myrtle Death

As a student at Hogwarts, Moaning Myrtle was slain by the Basilisk under Tom Riddle’s control. According to the Harry Potter Wiki, Myrtle was a Ravenclaw who had been hiding in the ladies’ lavatory to avoid being discovered by other students.

In one of the toilets, Myrtle was weeping when she heard a man’s voice. She was instantly killed by the Basilisk’s sight as she emerged from the cubicle to confront him.

It’s uncertain if Riddle intentionally dispatched the Basilisk after her. It’s more likely that Myrtle was the victim of circumstance when she fell victim to his first murder. Following her death, she continued going back to the girl’s lavatory, where she was observed crying uncontrollably in the cubicle, filling it with tears, and developing feelings for our main character, Harry.

Myrtle passed away at the age of 14

Tom Riddle opened the Chamber of Secrets in 1942, precisely fifty years before his memories encouraged Ginny to follow suit. According to the Wizarding World website, Myrtle was born in the late 1920s and enrolled in Hogwarts in the early 1940s. It is unclear, though, how old she was in that particular year.

This suggests that at the time of the 1942–1943 school year, Myrtle was most likely a second or third-year student, or around 14 years old. This proved the seriousness of the threat presented by Slytherin’s monster and was comparable to Hermione’s. Hermione was a Muggle by birth and was around the same age as the magical happenings of the Chamber of Secrets.

Voldemort’s First Murder Was of Myrtle

According to the Harry Potter novels, Voldemort began killing at a very young age, when he was still just known as Tom Riddle. At the end of his school career, Riddle ultimately tracked out his father, Tom Riddle Sr., and discovered that he was a wealthy Muggle. As a result, he employed the Avada Kedavra curse to kill Riddle Sr. and then charged his mother’s brother Morfin with the crime.

But Tom Riddle employed Basilisk to practise murdering before this crime was done. Moaning Myrtle, the first victim on Voldemort’s long list, was the perfect example of the figure’s criminal character.
