Mother Accused of Killing three children, Constructed Snowman with them Before Murders

In court, the prosecution painted a picture of a day that revealed nothing out of the ordinary to show that Clancy was not mentally unstable on January 24, the day of the death.

Prosecutors claimed on Tuesday that Lindsay Clancy, 32, of Massachusetts, who is accused of killing her three small children by strangulation last month, premeditated the killings after learning fresh information about her alleged behavior on the day of the occurrence.

In court, the prosecution painted a picture of a day that revealed nothing out of the ordinary to show that Clancy was not mentally unstable on January 24, the day of the death. She allegedly created a snowman with her kids in their backyard after taking a youngster to the pediatrician.

Prosecutors claim that later that afternoon, Clancy, who appeared in court on Tuesday via Zoom from her hospital bed, looked up the travel time to and from a restaurant in a nearby town on Apple Maps. She then asked her husband, Patrick, to drive to pick up the lunch after placing a pick-up order over the phone, according to the prosecution.

According to Jennifer Sprague, the Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney, the restaurant was further away from the family’s Duxbury home than where they typically purchased takeout, and Clancy sounded mentally sound when placing the order.

“There was nothing unusual about this call, according to the hostess who answered the phone. Her speech wasn’t slurred or otherwise compromised, “Tuesday was Sprague’s day. Clancy texted her husband shortly after he had gone to urge him to stop at CVS on the way to the dinner and pick up some medication.

He called Clancy while he was there to clarify which medication to purchase; Patrick Clancy told the court that this phone call was “totally regular,” but he added that his wife “seemed like she was in the middle of something.” When Patrick Clancy returned home, his wife was on the ground in the backyard with slashes on her neck and wrist. Their bedroom’s window on the second level was wide open. According to the prosecution, she was awake.

Lindsay responded, “In the basement,” when Patrick inquired where the children were, according to Sprague. Patrick discovered his three kids there, each of whom still had an exercise band around their neck. Although Patrick Clancy told prosecutors his wife had never mentioned hearing voices, Sprague claimed Lindsay Clancy called her husband from her hospital bed on Monday and claimed she killed their children “because she heard a voice and had “a moment of psychosis”.

“She had these killings planned. Each child was strangled while at home with their mother, where they should have felt the safest. She provided herself the space and solitude she needed to carry out the killings “Sprague stated. Kevin Reddington, the defense counsel for Clancy, asserted that the murders “were not planned by any means” and were the result of mental illness.

He noted that in early January, Clancy checked herself into a mental health facility for five days after earlier disclosing having suicidal thoughts. Tuesday, a judge ruled that Clancy must stay in the hospital until he or she is given the all-clear to transfer to a rehabilitation center. On May 2, a probable cause hearing was planned. Just after 6 p.m. ET on the day of the event, a man called 911 to report that his wife had tried to commit suicide by jumping out of a window at their home.

As soon as they arrived on the scene, first responders treated Lindsay Clancy before bringing her to a hospital in Boston, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz last month. Three small children—a 5-year-old boy, a 3-year-old boy, and a 7-month-old boy—were later discovered inside the house by first responders, “unconscious with apparent symptoms of severe trauma,” Cruz added.
