This plea agreement reduces her prospective six-year sentence to six months.

Mother Pleads Guilty in Virginia Classroom Shooting

On January 6, her son accidentally shot Abigail Zwerner, an elementary school teacher at Richneck Elementary School. After being struck in the hand and torso, thankfully, Ms. Zwerner survived, although she required multiple operations.

Taylor had initially claimed that the pistol was safely locked in her purse, with the key concealed beneath her mattress. She subsequently admitted, however, that the firearm was easily accessible. According to reports, the child stole the gun from his mother’s purse on an unlocked dresser, as previously stated.

Taylor’s attorney, James Ellenson, stated that she profoundly regrets the incident. “She feels very responsible and evil,” he explained. This tragic event has reignited conversations about school safety and gun control.

Ms. Zwerner has since filed a $40 million lawsuit against the school district. In August, unsealed court documents disclosed additional information about the incident. The young child allegedly confessed to the crime, stating that he had stolen his mother’s gun the night before. He has not been charged.

In a separate case, Taylor confessed in June to possessing a firearm while under the influence of marijuana. This case’s verdict is anticipated in October.
