Neel Nanda Obituary: How He Impacted Stand-Up Comedy!

The cause of his death is unknown at this time. He was 32 years old.

Neel Nanda Obituary: Known for his appearances on Comedy Central’s Adam Devine’s House Party and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Neel Nanda has passed away, according to his manager, Greg Weiss. The cause of his death is unknown at this time. He was 32 years old.

Weiss said in a statement, “I am deeply shocked and saddened by this. He was not only a great comic, but also a great human being. According to Weiss, he was fully booked with appearances throughout January and February, and the Port Comedy Club was one of the first places in Baltimore to honor Nanda via social media.

“It is with a very heavy heart we say goodbye to comedy great, Neel Nanda,” reps for The Port Comedy Club posted Saturday on Instagram. “Absolutely shocked by the news. Such a positive force for comedy and a huge loss to our community. Rest in Peace Neel,” adding “Thank you for gracing our stage and piano, a great headliner, gone too soon.”

In a 2018 interview with VC Reporter, Nanda, born to Indian immigrants in Atlanta, GA, mentioned that he developed a passion for humor as a child. In middle school, he said, he would watch Comedy Central with a notebook in hand, jotting down his favorite jokes to repeat in class.

“I didn’t realize I was stealing jokes until I was in high school,” said Nanda.

“When I was in high school I started writing my own jokes using the structure of some of the jokes I had previously stolen. I filled up a notebook of jokes and didn’t realize until college that I could go to an open mic and tell them. I actually had a friend read the notebook and tell me, ‘You know you can just go perform these, right?’ I didn’t know, but after a quick Google search I was off to the Laughing Skull open mic.”

He first collaborated with Jimmy Kimmel in 2017 and made an appearance for five minutes. Watch the video down below. Nanda told VCReporter, “I would say that performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live is my proudest accomplishment to date in the comedy world.”

Neel Nanda Cause of Death

I’ve always wanted to perform a late-night set, and my first preference was Jimmy Kimmel.” It really amazed me how everything came together. I’ve done shows on other networks, such as Viceland, Comedy Central, Hulu, and so on, but Jimmy Kimmel was the first venue where my parents were fans of the host.

“Unnecessary Evil” was Nanda’s weekly stand-up comedy performance at the Westside Comedy Theater in Los Angeles, which LA Weekly rated among the 10 best in the city.

In addition, he appeared on Viceland’s Flophouse, Hulu’s Coming to the Stage, and Comedy Central’s Adam Devine’s House Party. Comedians such as Matt Rife have paid tribute to Nanda online.

“You were one of the nicest, hardest working comedians I’ve ever called a friend and i hope you can be at peace brother”, Rife wrote on X (fka Twitter).
