The 24-year-old won his first medal in the international competition after failing to get to the final at the 2017 World Athletics Championships and missing out in 2019 due to an injury.
Neeraj Chopra, one of India’s top athletes, made history once more when he became the first Indian to ever win a medal at the Athletics World Championships, following long jumper Anju Bobby George.
Chopra won a silver medal with a throw of 88.13 metres in the final at Oregon in the USA. Anderson Peters, the reigning world champion, successfully defended his title with three throws that over the 90-meter barrier. Despite having a sluggish start to the final, Neeraj delivered a strong throw on his fourth try, helping him place third.
There was a great deal of anticipation for the star athlete, and his supporters congratulated him right away on social media after he won the gold medal at the Olympics in Tokyo last year, becoming only the second Indian, after shooter Abhinav Bindra, to do so.
Neeraj Chopra has now earned all of the main medals. The 24-year-old won his first medal in the international competition after failing to get to the final at the 2017 World Athletics Championships and missing out in 2019 due to an injury.
Neeraj Chopra currently has the titles of Olympic, Asian, and Commonwealth Games champion as well as World Athletics Championships silver medallist.
