Powerball Jackpot Hits $685 Million

A few days ago, the numbers 5, 12, 20, 24, and 29 were drawn, with 4 being the extra ball. The prize went from $638 million to an amazing $385 million, with a cash bonus of $344.7 million. These games didn’t bring any winners.

After a player from California won a huge $1.76 billion in October, the stakes have been raised even more. That prize was the second-largest in Powerball history.

Powerball says that only three jackpots have ever been won on Christmas Day. The most recent one was for $71.5 million in 2013.

If you still have your tickets, here are some things you should know about the next Powerball drawing. The Powerball lotto holds draws three times a week, at 10:59 p.m. ET on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. In line with this pattern, the next Powerball drawing will happen on Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 10:59 p.m. ET.

How to Play?

Powerball tickets only cost $2 each to play. For the white balls, each player must pick five numbers from 1 to 69. For the red Powerball, each player must pick one number from 1 to 26.

You can pick your lucky numbers or let the lotto machine pick numbers at random. You can win with nine different combinations:

  • There is a grand prize of 5 white balls plus 1 red Powerball.
  • Five white balls are worth $1 million.
  • It’s $50,000 for 4 white balls and 1 red Powerball.
  • Four white balls are worth $100.
  • $100 is equal to 3 white balls plus 1 red Powerball.
  • Seven dollars for three white balls.
  • Seven dollars is equal to two white balls and one red Powerball.
  • $1 for a white ball and $1 for a red Powerball.
  • A red PowerBall is worth $4.

For an extra $1 per play, the Power Play feature lets you multiply your wins by two, three, four, five, or even ten times. This choice can be made for wins that aren’t the jackpot up to 10 times when the jackpot is $150 million or less.

Except for the grand prize, all of the gifts are set amounts of cash. In California, the amount of prizes given depends on how many people win and how much they buy.

It is one in 292,201,338 chances to win the Powerball prize. One in 38.32 chances are there to win the smallest prize, which is $4 for one red Powerball. Powerball says that the general chance of getting any prize is 1 in 24.87, based on a $2 play and two decimal places.
