Princess Margaret Cause of Death: Princess Margaret’s Turbulent Health Journey Explored!

Despite her illustrious career, she struggled with many health issues in her later years due to her excessive smoking and drinking.

Princess Margaret Cause of Death: Princess Margaret passed away at the age of 71 on February 9, 2002, leaving Queen Elizabeth II to say farewell to her only sibling. Margaret has had an eventful life since her birth on August 21, 1930. She was known as the Rebel Royal because her demeanor and choices frequently differed from those of her elder sister, the Queen.

Despite her illustrious career, she struggled with many health issues in her later years due to her excessive smoking and drinking. A portion of her left lung had to be removed in January 1985.

She finally kicked the habit years later, but she had a string of strokes and other health issues leading up to her 2002 death. Everything you need to know about Margaret’s death is right here, as Season 6 of The Crown delves into her health difficulties.

Princess Margaret Death: What Caused It?

Even after undergoing a lung procedure in 1985, Margaret’s health deteriorated further. Margaret allegedly decided to give up smoking for good after her hospitalization for pneumonia in January 1993.

Although she quit smoking, she had a string of strokes in the years that followed, beginning with a mild one in February 1998 while on vacation in Mustique. A wheelchair and cane were occasionally necessary after she endured severe burns to her feet in a toilet accident the year after.

The New York Post reports that in January 2001, she was admitted to the hospital due to a “severe loss of appetite,” as stated by Buckingham Palace. A fatal stroke the day before she passed away followed a series of strokes and a period of bad health that had left her half-paralyzed and with vision issues.

What Did the Royal Family Say About Princess Margaret’s Death?

With “great sadness,” the Queen has ordered for the following notification to be made shortly after Margaret’s death, according to an official statement issued by Buckingham Palace. Princess Margaret, her dear sister, passed away quietly at 6.30 am this morning at the King Edward VII Hospital.

Lord Linley and Lady Sarah Chatto, the queen’s children, were present when she passed away, and “The Queen was kept fully informed throughout the night” before she passed away, according to the statement.

There was no broadcast message by Queen Elizabeth regarding her sister’s death, except for the formal statement issued by Buckingham Palace. As an alternative, Prince Charles made a tribute broadcast.

In his statement, he expressed his deepest sympathies for the queen, his mother, and his grandmother, the Queen Mother. He also extended his condolences to Princess Margaret’s children, David and Sarah, as well as his aunt’s wonderful friends, who will also mourn her loss with us all, according to Hello! Magazine.

“My aunt was one of those remarkable people who, apart from being so incredibly vital… also had such incredible talents,” he remarked, characterizing her as someone who lived life to the utmost. “And for that, she will remain in our hearts forever.”
