Relentless rain throws normal life out of gear in Ranchi

At the Raj Bhawan chowk, there is information of damage to a tent erected by Jharkhand Raosia Sangh due to the fall of a tree. Some agitators also sustained injuries in the incident.

Ranchi: Normal life has been thrown out of gear in the Jharkhand capital due to continuous rain since Friday night.

Several trees have fallen on the road, disrupting vehicular movement. The places from where reports of disruption in traffic due to the falling of trees have come include a place near Suvidha Mart on Bariatu Road, Dhurwa, near old Namkum police station premises, Saheed Chowk, Hardag on Ranchi-Khunti Road, a place near Sirom Toli Chowk, near Ashok Nagar Road No.1, Mecon’s Shyamali Colony and Ranchi University premises besides others.

There is information of damage to over half a dozen vehicles from the Civil court campus due to the fall of a big tree. At the Raj Bhawan chowk, there is information of damage to a tent erected by Jharkhand Raosia Sangh due to the fall of a tree. Some agitators also sustained injuries in the incident.

Power supply disrupted

The fall of some of the trees on overhead wire has also disrupted the power supply causing problems in recharging inverters and mobile batteries operating water pumps to fill water in their overhead water tanks. As the power supply remained disrupted, people who were confined inside their houses had problems with day-to-day work.

“When power was cut in the middle of the night, the inverter supported but when the power cut continued for a long time, even the inverter became non-functional and the day became dark when confined inside the house. I faced problems in cooking and other necessary household work,” said a homemaker Poonam Devi at Harmu.

Low visibility at Ranchi airport

Director of Birsa Munda Airport K L Agrawal said the flight service also remained affected due to continuous rain. He said Indigo has cancelled its flights for Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Patna, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru due to rainfall.

Heavy rains cause waterlogging

There is a report of water logging in house campus in Harmu Housing Colony where level open space in between road and boundary wall of houses got increased after paver block was laid for beautification and water harvesting. In some parts of the city, water has entered the houses due to poor drainage.

School children also had a tough time going to their schools to attend regular classes.

“After remaining absent for seven days due to viral fever, I had planned to join my classes from today but when I woke up in the morning I became worried when I realised that it was raining heavily. However, I got ready and reached my bus stop facing the rain. Though I was under an umbrella cover, I could not save myself completely from rainwater,” said Aryan Raj, a class X student of DAV Kapildev waiting for his bus at 6.30 am.
