Renata Scotto was a well-known Italian opera singer

Renata Scotto, a renowned Italian opera vocalist, was born in Savona on February 24, 1934. In 1952, she made her debut as Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata. She began her operatic career when she was still young.

In 1956, she began collaborating with Franco and performed in Carmen in Venice. They reconnected in 1959 at La Scala and again in 1961 in Verona. In 1965, she collaborated with Corelli and performed as Liù on the studio recording of Turandot.

Later, in 1975, she performed alongside Franco in La Bohème as Mim during a Metropolitan Opera tour. After an outstanding debut as Violetta, she became well-known, performing at La Scala and establishing a prosperous career.

However, her Metropolitan Opera debut as Madama Butterfly was not until 1965. As the 20th century drew to a close, she took on a new role as a director, adding an intriguing new dimension to her already accomplished career.
