Rodgers Backs His Sean Payton Remarks: ‘I Stand by Everything’

The 15 games coached by Hackett for the Broncos last season were one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL, according to Payton, who was quoted in USA Today.

Rodgers Backs His Sean Payton Remarks: On Monday, in response to Jets quarterback Geno Smith’s criticism of Broncos head coach Sean Payton’s comments about Nathaniel Hackett, Broncos quarterback Aaron Rodgers continued to defend his offensive coordinator and disparage Payton. As the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets, Hackett has rejoined Rodgers on the pitch.

The 15 games coached by Hackett for the Broncos last season were “one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL,” according to Payton, who was quoted in USA Today.

As for the Jets, where Hackett and Rodgers are reunited after their success with the Green Bay Packers, Payton claimed there were “20 dirty hands” encircling nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson, who had a disappointing rookie season with the Denver Broncos.

In April, New York acquired Aaron Rodgers from Green Bay, and Rodgers later referred to Hackett as “arguably my favourite coach I’ve ever had in the NFL.” In 2020 and 2021, while playing for the Packers, Aaron Rodgers won two of his four NFL MVP awards.

Payton stated in the same USA Today interview that the Jets are “trying to win the offseason” like the Broncos did under Hackett and were “embarrassed.”

Payton apologised for his remarks on Friday and stated that he would contact Hackett and Saleh “at the right time.” On Monday, reporters inquired as to whether or not Rodgers had received communication from Payton.

According to Rodgers’ interview with NFL Network on Sunday, Payton’s initial comments “were shocking for a coach to make to another coach.”

In the meantime, the squabbling increased the stakes for the Jets’ Week 5 game in Denver. “When we play them, the game will certainly be more exciting,” Payton said, “but that seems years away.”
