Ron DeSantis’ support in South Carolina drops to 7% in recent poll

A new poll indicates that Palmetto State Republicans are passing on the Florida governor. His support rating is at its lowest level in any South Carolina survey to date, with him barely holding onto third place.

Earlier this month, Ron DeSantis described himself as a “great candidate” for South Carolina, and suggested that he may sign a sublease in the state in order to campaign ahead of South Carolina’s February presidential primary.

A new poll indicates that Palmetto State Republicans are passing on the Florida governor. His support rating is at its lowest level in any South Carolina survey to date, with him barely holding onto third place.

As a result of DeSantis’ 6.6% (rounded to 7%), he is far behind Donald Trump (54%), Nikki Haley (29%) and only marginally ahead of Chris Christie (5%) and Vivek Ramaswamy (3%).

A pollster says the results of this survey are in line with those of other states, which indicates that the governor, who repeatedly refers to a “nation in decline”, has a campaign that is in free fall.

“DeSantis has seen a decline in support, and similar to our New Hampshire poll has faded into the pack with single-digit support” said Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of Emerson College Polling.

As part of the allocation of the state’s 50 delegates to the Republican National Convention, 29 delegates go to the overall winner, while three delegates are allocated to the winners of each of the state’s seven Congressional districts. Despite the absence of a breakdown of the data by district, the formula suggests Trump is likely to win the Palmetto State in the majority.

In the Emerson survey, DeSantis appears to be in a worse position than in other polls taken at the end of 2023.

Early in December, Trafalgar Group conducted a survey in which DeSantis received 14% of the vote. He received 11% in the Fabrizio, Lee, and Associates survey conducted in November, and 12% support in the Winthrop University survey conducted recently. CNN surveyed from Oct. 18 through Oct. 25 which showed DeSantis receiving 11% support.
