Nevertheless, she was always willing to work with anyone, even those with whom she disagreed, if it meant improving the lives of Californians or the nation.”

Many individuals, including her political opponents, reacted with sadness to the news. In a lengthy response, one of these opponents wrote, “Politics aside. I am profoundly saddened by Senator Dianne Feinstein’s passing. I’m certain we all are.”

Despite announcing her intention to retire at the end of the following year, the Stanford University graduate resisted repeated demands for her to step down.
