As the protesters marched around the tree on Rockefeller Plaza and then to Grand Central Station and Union Square, shouting “Christmas is cancelled!”

Police and marchers fought and shoved each other several times, making the situation very heated. Outside of the News Corp building on Sixth Ave. at 1:50 p.m. Monday, the planned protest started, but the protesters quickly moved.

As the protesters took to the streets and moved toward Grand Central, they were seen stopping traffic in large groups.

During the six-hour protest, six people were arrested. Two of them were Elder Mohammed, 50, and his cousin Adam Elder Mohammed, 24. Both were charged with resisting arrest, obstructing government operation, and disorderly behavior. Both were given tickets to appear at a desk and then sent home.

Cisse Muktar, 18, of the Bronx was also arrested and charged with threatening, refusing arrest, and acting in a disorderly manner. His hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court wasn’t happening yet on Tuesday.

Two women, ages 19 and 23, were also arrested and charged with making graffiti. A 26-year-old guy was also arrested and charged with disorderly behavior.

Police say an NYPD officer hurt his knee when he tried to help another officer catch a protester.

It was the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade last month. Some protesters jumped the barriers near Sixth Ave. and W. 45th St. and stuck to the sidewalk, blocking the path of dancers, floats, and balloons.

People who are planning protests want people to stop celebrating Christmas “in mourning for the ongoing genocide in Gaza.”

Since October 7, when Hamas struck several Israeli towns near the Gaza Strip, there has been a war in Gaza. A lot of Israelis were killed and a lot more were taken prisoners.
