Haskins, a former first-round selection from Ohio State by the Redskins, was 24 years old when he was released and signed by the Steelers as a backup quarterback.

According to a report by law enforcement officials attempting to reconstruct Haskins’ final hours, he had dinner with a friend or relative before proceeding to a nightclub in South Florida, where “they drank heavily and at some point got into a fight, separating.”

After leaving, Haskins’ car ran out of petrol on the interstate. Haskins then exited his vehicle to purchase petrol, at which point he was struck by the truck.

His wife, Kalabrya Haskins, reported that he contacted her and said he was going to deliver gasoline to a 911 dispatcher. She called 911 to request a welfare check because Haskins had not returned her call to provide an update.

The report indicates that this traffic incident was an accident. No one has been charged with a crime. April’s incident investigation concluded that the driver was not at fault. A second vehicle that was attempting to avoid Haskins also collided with him.

Numerous publications, including Fox Sports’ Andy Slater in Miami, cited the medical examiner’s inquiry report, which stated that Haskins was in the car with a “female companion” who claimed he had gone to get petrol. Her relationship with Haskins has not been established, according to the investigation.
