Three Texas Police Officers Charged With Murder: Shooting At Women’s Apartment

Police shot and killed Melissa Perez, 46, when she refused to leave her apartment, according to Police Chief William McManus on Friday.

Three Texas Police Officers Charged With Murder: According to the San Antonio police chief, three of his officers have been accused of murder in connection with the death of a woman who was having a “mental health crisis.”

Police shot and killed Melissa Perez, 46, when she refused to leave her apartment, according to Police Chief William McManus on Friday. Officers Eleazar Alejandro, Nathaniel Villalobos, and Sergeant Alfred Flores were placed on unpaid leave and later arrested on murder warrants.

At a news conference late on Friday, SAPD spokesperson McManus stated that “the officers’ actions were inconsistent with SAPD’s policy and training.” Because the killers “placed themselves in a situation where they used deadly force,” according to McManus, the killers’ acts were “unreasonable given all the circumstances as we now understand them.”

According to McManus, one of the three charging officers opened fire after Perez swung a hammer and threw a glass candelabra at the officers. According to McManus, all three policeman opened fire when Perez retaliated against them with a hammer. They hit her at least twice. The three cops cannot be represented by any of the solicitors mentioned in court documents.

Around 12:30 a.m. on Friday, Perez was speaking with fire officials when an officer approached her and persuaded her to walk towards a patrol car, according to McManus. The felony offence of cutting the cables to an apartment complex fire alarm was under investigation for Perez.

Perez was speaking with a fire department representative outside the complex when an unidentified police arrived. The officer could be heard telling Perez, “hey lady, get over here,” but Perez resisted and kept walking away. Without giving any further details, McManus exclaimed, “It appeared that Miss Perez was having a mental health crisis,” and then raced back inside her flat.

In a video, Perez can be heard shouting “Stop it” and “You ain’t got no warrant” as a cop removes a window screen on the terrace of his flat. Perez replies, “Shoot me – you ain’t got no warrant,” in response to an unnamed police officer’s threat that “You’re going to get shot.” The sound of shattering glass is followed by two gunshots.

McManus refused to respond to queries, stating that the shooting was still under investigation by the Bexar County district attorney’s Civil Rights division, the Internal Affairs and Civil Rights division of the police department, and both. Other officers were there, according to McManus, but none are anticipated to face charges despite the fact that everyone was under investigation. As with every officer-involved incident, McManus assured the Perez family that the circumstances surrounding their loss would be carefully examined.
