Several hours of highway traffic were rerouted while witnesses paused to speak with officers on the shoulder. The driver, Perla Andrade, was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the passenger was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the police.

In an interview with ABC7, Perla’s mother pleaded with the driver who struck her daughter to come forward. The victim lived with her mother, two siblings, and two cousins in Little Village. Perla’s mother states that she was also a devoted mother. After her spouse died three years prior, she was responsible for her two children, ages 3 and 10, alone.

According to her mother, the last time Perla and she spoke was last night. She was on her way to pick up another companion when she was killed. Her children are now orphans, as both of their parents have died. According to Perla’s mother, after hitting her daughter and her companion, the truck driver never stopped.

She hopes that if he is a parent, he will be able to experience the family’s suffering. She asked for him to report to the authorities. In addition, she requests that anyone with information come forward. A friend has created a GoFundMe page to help raise money for funerary costs and for the children, as the family is currently making funeral arrangements.

Authorities have not provided any updates on the condition of Perla’s injured companion. The interstate is lined with surveillance cameras, but police have not yet disclosed whether any of them contain images of the vehicle they are searching for.
