Trump Leadership PAC’s Legal Battles: Save America, the political action committee of former President Donald Trump, has reportedly spent more than $40 million on legal fees so far in 2018.

The Super PAC, which receives the majority of its funding from individuals who support Trump, is anticipated to report to the Federal Election Commission on Monday that it spent $40.2 million on legal fees in the first half of the year, more than doubling the amount it spent on legal fees in the entirety of 2022.

Rescue America spent over $16 million on legal fees, according to Federal Election Commission filings from 2022. Until Monday evening, political action committees must submit disclosure reports covering the first half of this year.

Trump’s legal team argues that the increasing severity of the president’s legal problems justifies the exorbitant costs of defending the former president and his inner circle.

Sunday, two sources with knowledge of the plans told CNN that Trump’s team is establishing a legal defence fund to help alleviate some of the substantial expenses incurred.

The new fund, which was first reported by The New York Times, is intended to assist current and former Trump staff members embroiled in investigations of the former president to pay their legal fees. The Patriot Legal Defence Fund Inc., its purported identity, would be led by Trump associate and adviser Michael Glassner.

On Thursday, special counsel Jack Smith filed new charges against Trump, his former aide Walt Nauta, and a third defendant named Carlos De Oliveira for allegedly mishandling confidential documents after Trump left office.

As part of the indictments, the grand jury asserts that Trump and his staff attempted to destroy Mar-a-Lago security footage. Trump’s business represents both Nauta and De Oliveira in legal matters.

In addition to the March indictment by a Manhattan grand jury on more than 30 counts related to business fraud, the former president faces potential charges in the special counsel’s January 6 grand jury investigation and the Fulton County District Attorney’s office in Georgia regarding claims of voter fraud after the 2020 election. As Trump’s legal troubles intensify, he has accumulated a more formidable legal team.
