West Virginia Social Security: WOAY – Charleston, WV The Republican-dominated House of Delegates in West Virginia approved a measure to lower and eventually eliminate the state income tax on social security benefits.

As he stated in his final State of the State speech last month, Governor Jim Justice has made eliminating the tax a top priority. This is included in his proposed budget.

The Senate will now consider a plan that would do away with the tax for all other individuals after three years.

The legislature approved a plan in 2019 to lower the income tax on social security benefits for those with the lowest incomes in the state over three years.
