What Happened in Casey Anthony’s Trial?

CNN reports that Caylee Anthony disappeared on June 16, 2008. George and Cindy Anthony didn’t find out their daughter was missing until July 15, 2008, when they discovered her automobile had been stolen and smelled awful.

Cindy called 911 after Anthony lied to the police about where his daughter was. Anthony was arrested the next day on charges of child neglect, making fake statements, and getting in the way of an investigation.

Police searched for Caylee’s body for five months before finding her bones in a grassy area near the Anthony family’s home in Orlando on December 11, 2008.

Human remains were discovered in Anthony’s car’s trunk two months earlier, in October 2008, according to CNN. This led a grand jury to charge her with capital murder. Tony said he wasn’t guilty.

It began in May 2011 with the trial. The prosecution says Anthony put her daughter in the trunk of the car after suffocating and unconscious her with gas and duct tape.

The defense said that when Caylee drowned in the Anthony family pool, Casey’s dad George got scared and told Casey that they had to hide her death. Attorney Jose Baez, who was defending Anthony, also said that George had raped Casey when she was a child. CNN says that George denied these claims.

A 12-person panel found Casey not guilty of first-degree murder, severe child abuse, and severe manslaughter of a child on July 5, 2011. After being found guilty on four charges of lying to police, she was placed in jail.
