Despite his lifelong ambition to become an actor, Hallisay did not major in drama at Cornell University as an undergraduate. “Becoming an actor had always been a childhood ambition. I was also interested in history and economics in college,” Hallisay told the Chicago Tribune in 2008. I was an investment broker for a while before deciding to pursue an acting career in Hollywood.

Hallisay ultimately shifted his emphasis to acting, which led to him meeting his future wife.

Hewitt and Hallisay reconnected on the set of the Lifetime series The Client List after filming an unaired pilot for the series Love Bites.
