More information about Dave LaVallie

David Murray LaVallie was born in Calgary on 11 July 1965. In his adolescence, Dave was an outstanding athlete who excelled at soccer and football. His adult sporting passion was golf… From enjoying golf trips with his closest friends to putting daily on a practise green set up in the centre of his living room, swinging for hours at the driving range, and practising his form in every reflection he could find, he was an avid golfer.

Before completing high school in 1983 at Henry Wisewood, he attended Kingsland Elementary and Milton Williams Junior High. Dave went on to obtain degrees in criminal justice and law from Simon Fraser University and the University of Calgary, respectively. He practised law in Edmonton and Calgary before entering the petroleum industry.

Dave, a loyal Métis man, has devoted his entire career to advancing the economic well-being of Canada’s indigenous peoples. He envisioned the export of Canadian clean energy off the coast of Canada’s West Coast to protect the environment by displacing polluting technologies and allowing our First Nations citizens to participate in ownership and governance in a meaningful way.

Dave laboured to accomplish that vision during his lifetime, and his legacy includes the ongoing evolution of the Canadian energy sector. From humble beginnings, Dave amassed wealth for the nations with whom he worked and for his family.

Nevertheless, Dave did not view his career as his greatest accomplishment. Dave never lost sight of what was most essential to him: the people he cared about, despite his hard work. Dave established a family, first with Kim and then with Kelly, for whom adoring and defending became his professed and actual mission.

From elementary school through law school and into his professional career, Dave has developed and maintained close friendships.
