A 26-year-old woman was on Wednesday found hanging in her house in Ranchi district after writing a suicide note on the walls of her room using lipstick, police said. The deceased was identified as Chanda Devi of Dakra village, around 40 km from the state capital Ranchi. She was a mother of two children. In her suicide note, she held her husband identified as Dilip Chouhan and in-laws ”responsible for her extreme step”, police said.
Chanda had a love marriage with Dilip in 2019. Since marriage, Chanda was allegedly being harassed repeatedly by her husband and in-laws for dowry, her family members alleged. Khalari deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Animesh Naithani told PTI that they received information that a woman committed suicide in her house on Wednesday morning. “As per the information, police reached the spot and found that she had written the story of her harassment on the walls of the house by using lipstick or kind of red dye. She wrote the names of her husband and in-laws on the walls. She wrote that she was fed up,” the officer said.
In her suicide note, she alleged that she was beaten up and abused. She also said in the note that her husband should not be allowed to touch her body after her death, police said.
Nathani said an FIR is being lodged by the family members of Chanda. Ranchi Superintendent of Police (Rural) Naushad Alam said that the accused in the case have been detained.
