World War II Rocket Found in Lake County
World War II Rocket Found in Lake County: Residents of unincorporated Antioch were evacuated on Thursday after the discovery of what may have been a projectile from World War II prompted a bomb squad response. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about a suspicious package in the 25000 block of West 3rd Street in the afternoon.
A homeowner conducting garden work near a swing set contacted the police after discovering something protruding from the ground with jagged edges. The individual excavated the object from the earth. According to the police, the object resembled an anti-tank missile from World War II.
Authorities have expressed ambiguity regarding the object’s explosive potential and its time of burial. The Waukegan Bomb Squad responded to the site to determine a safe method of disposal. Locals were required to evacuate while the explosives squad handled the situation.
