$5,000 Wells Fargo Settlement: Wells Fargo has agreed to pay $19.5 million to settle a major privacy lawsuit in California after the bank and its partners were accused of recording customer phone calls without asking for permission. The case claimed that Wells Fargo and its affiliates broke the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA), which clearly says that all parties in a call must give their consent before it can be recorded.
Capital One $425M Settlement: How can you claim your share?
Between 2014 and 2023, The Credit Wholesale Company Inc., which worked with Wells Fargo, recorded phone calls made to California residents and businesses. These calls were mostly related to sales, customer service, or appointments. The company however did not tell people that the calls were being recorded, which is against California’s strict privacy law. Thousands of calls were affected during this period, leading to serious legal concerns about consumer privacy.
A group of people sued Wells Fargo, The Credit Wholesale Company, and Priority Technology Holdings for recording their calls. The case ended with an out-of-court deal, giving affected people compensation.
The settlement offers around $86 per recorded call, and some people may get up to $5,000 if they had several calls recorded without permission. The exact amount each person will receive depends on how many calls were recorded and the court’s final decision.
People who think they qualify can submit a claim online at CallRecordingClassAction.com by selecting “Submit a Claim” and filling out the form with the required details. Applicants can also mail their claims to Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 301132, Los Angeles, CA 90030-1132.
