$600 SSI Bonus in September 2025? What Social Security Really Says

Social Security has not confirmed a $600 increase in SSI benefits for September 2025. Rumors are circulating online, but official SSA updates clarify payment schedules remain unchanged.

$600 SSI Bonus in September 2025: Lately people keep seeing posts on Facebook, TikTok and other places saying Social Security will give out a one-time $600 bonus check with SSI in July or maybe in September. But this is not true at all. The Social Security Administration already explained there is no such extra money, no $600 check, and nothing has been approved like that.

SSA change of address: How to update your information for uninterrupted Social Security payment

Many people got confused because every year benefits go up with something called Cost-of-Living Adjustment. For 2025 the COLA is 2.5 percent. This raise already started at the end of December 2024 and the higher payments came in January 2025. For example, if someone gets $2,000 each month, their raise is about $47 more each month, and if you add that for a whole year it comes close to $564. That looks kind of like $600, but it is not a bonus and it does not come in one payment.

$600 SSI Bonus in September 2025: Where the rumor started?

The false $600 idea has been spreading online for months. Some people post videos saying the extra check is coming to help with higher prices. But SSA called these stories fake. They even put out warnings. In June 2024 the SSA Inspector General said very clearly: “Reports of a $600 June increase are false… Any information regarding a current $600 increase is false and should be ignored.”

This type of rumor keeps moving because scammers use it to trick people. They send fake messages asking for Social Security numbers, bank accounts or other private details to “claim the bonus.” In reality there is no bonus, but the scammers then steal people’s money or identity. News reports even shared that Americans already lost more than $126.5 million from these kinds of lies.

Social Security COLA for 2026 projected at 2.7%, new estimate suggests smaller boost for retirees

What is the truth?

What actually happened is very simple. SSI payments already include the COLA raise for 2025. People started getting that higher amount from January. The 2.5% increase is part of the monthly check. There is no special extra $600 deposit in July, September or any other month.
