  • In 2023, they had to have owned and occupied a Montana residence for a minimum of seven months, whether it be a house, apartment, or mobile home.
  • To qualify for the rebate, homeowners must have received a property tax bill and paid taxes on their primary residence, including only the house and the first acre of surrounding land. Only one rebate can be claimed per household.

Certain conditions disqualify homeowners from eligibility. Properties owned by companies or LLCs are not eligible, even if a shareholder or member resides in the home. Renters cannot claim the rebate, as it is reserved solely for property owners. Residences owned by irrevocable trusts are also excluded from the program.
