$967 Social Security Payment May: What You Need to Know

New SSI payment of up to $967 is coming on May 30. It’s not extra money it’s June’s check paid early because June 1 falls on a Sunday.

$967 Social Security Payment: People who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) should keep an eye on their bank accounts because the next payment is arriving earlier than usual. It will show up on May 30, 2025, and some might think it’s a mistake or a bonus. But it’s not. This is actually the June payment. Since June 1 falls on a Sunday, the Social Security Administration is sending the money two days early.

That means recipients will see two payments in May the first one came on May 1 for the month of May, and now this second one on May 30 covers June. So, even though two checks are coming in one month, you’re not getting extra money, it’s just the next month’s payment coming ahead of time.

Social Security June 2025: What are the new changes and who’s affected?

These changes happen whenever a scheduled payment date lands on a weekend or holiday. The same kind of adjustment will happen again later in the year in October, when the November payment gets sent early.

What You Need to Know About Your SSI Amounts

For 2025, the highest SSI benefit amount is $967 each month for individuals and $1,450 for couples. But not everyone gets these full amounts. How much you receive depends on other money you make, if you get help from family, if you’re getting other benefits like pensions or disability, and even where and how you live. For example, if someone lets you live with them and you don’t pay for your part, your check can go down to as little as $342.33.

$600 Social Security SSI Payment: Will you get this payment?

And keep in mind, getting two deposits in May might affect other help you receive, like Medicaid or food stamps. Those programs sometimes check your income month by month, so if it looks like you made more because of the double payment in May, your help might change temporarily.

Your payment will come the same way it always does either through Direct Express cards, direct deposit to your bank, or a paper check. Usually, electronic payments arrive faster and safer than checks. After this early payment, the next SSI check will arrive on July 1, like normal.
