Amazon Prime Settlement January 2026: The legal battle between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Amazon has moved into an important stage this January 2026. The dispute led to a large $2.5 billion settlement after the FTC found that Amazon used design tricks to “dupe” customers into signing up for Amazon Prime without clear consent and made it hard to cancel the service.
Under the settlement, Amazon already sent automatic refunds to many eligible U.S. customers between November and December 2025. Now, a second phase of claims is open for people who did not get a refund but may still qualify to receive some money back.

Who Can Still File a Claim?
Not everyone will get money automatically. If you never saw a refund posted to your account in late 2025, you might be part of this second group. Amazon and the settlement administrator will send notices by mail or email, usually before January 23, 2026, explaining how to file.
The requirements to file a formal claim are:
- Time period: Have registered for Prime between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025.
- Use of the service: Having used more than three but less than 10 Prime benefits in a 12-month period.
- Involuntary enrollment: Confirm that you were enrolled through deceptive navigation flows or that you attempted to cancel and the system prevented you from doing so.
How Much can you Get?
The total refund amount a customer can receive is capped at $51, which is based on the Prime membership fees paid while the unwanted subscription was active.
Some people already got their money automatically via email or direct deposit in late 2025. If you didn’t receive an automatic refund then you can file a claim online through the official settlement website. After your claim is approved, Amazon will send the payment, which you can receive through methods such as PayPal, Venmo, or mailed check.
