April Social Security Check: Find Out When You’ll Get Paid!

Social Security beneficiaries receive a monthly payment of their benefit, with the average monthly payment being $1,770, with additional payments expected this week.

April Social Security Check: Some beneficiaries of Social Security will receive another round of payments this week for April.

If your birthday falls on a Wednesday, you should receive your payment on the first or tenth of that particular month. Benefit recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI), those who started receiving benefits before May 1997, and those who received both Social Security and SSI should have received their checks last week.

Recent data from the Social Security Administration shows that the average monthly payment for all beneficiaries, after accounting for this year’s 3.2% cost-of-living adjustment (abbreviated COLA), is approximately $1,770. These days, the average monthly retirement benefit is $1,909.

When will I receive my April Social Security check?

Your birthday determines when you get paid if you are solely receiving Social Security benefits and did not begin receiving them before May 1997. If your birthday falls on a day other than the first or the tenth of any given month, you will receive your check on Wednesday.

On the first, SSI beneficiaries got their checks. April 3 was payment day for anyone who received Social Security benefits prior to May 1997; payments for those who receive both Social Security and SSI should have been made on April 1 and April 3, respectively.

Those recipients whose birthdays fall between April 11 and April 20 will receive their benefits on April 17, and those whose birthdays fall between April 21 and April 31 will receive their checks on April 24.

Social Security benefits for those who began receiving them before May 1997 are payable on April 3.

Social Security Payments to be Released Soon, Up to $1,415 per Recipient

How is the date of my Social Security payment decided?

The Social Security Administration typically sends out payments on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Your birthday determines which day you get your check.

  • Your payment will be sent on the second Wednesday of the month if your birthday falls between the first and the tenth of the month.
  • Your payment will be sent on the third Wednesday of the month if your birthday falls between the eleventh and the twentieth of the month.
  • Your payment will be sent on the fourth Wednesday of the month if your birthday falls between the 21st and the 31st of the current month.
  • SSI recipients typically receive their payments on the first of the month, though there are a few exceptions that we’ll go over below.
